Our top 5 ecological farm restaurants

From the land to the kitchen, from the kitchen to the table.

Some farmers started to grow biodynamically as early as the 1920s, this as a counterpart when fertiliser was emerging. This was also the case on Ibiza. And during the 1960s, when artists and hippies discovered the island, the first farms arose that grew their own fruit and vegetables, and also kept their own chickens or goats for fresh eggs, milk and cheese. In the last 15 years, more and more agritourism has developed, with agricultural and livestock farming activities taking place at hotels in accordance with certain rules. The farmers were happy to explain the method of cultivation to their guests, and the first eateries for non-hotel guests were established.

So, we thought it was time to list the five best organic farm restaurants for you.

  1. La Granja Farmhouse, San Mateo
  2. Cas Gasi, San Mateo
  3. Can Muson, Santa Eularia
  4. Terra Masia, Santa Eularia
  5. A mi Manera, San Lorenzo

La Granja Farmhouse, San Mateo

La Granja is an inland finca that promotes the Mediterranean organic diet as a lifestyle. They work together with “Friends of a Farmer”, an international organisation, which focuses on the correct cultivation of crops.

Under the guidance of master farmer Andy Szymanowicz, up to 30 different seasonal fruits and vegetables are grown on fertile land, including beetroot, carrot, lettuce, eggplant, tomato, onion, pumpkin, melon, herbs and berries. La Granja also has its own orchard with oranges, lemons, apples, nectarines, figs and almonds.

Workshops are given for larger groups and for their guests they like to give guided tours, where you can learn something about biodynamic agriculture, their way of composting and their sustainable approach to water management. In short, a super educational eating experience where the food really goes “from farm to fork”.

Cas Gasi, San Mateo

Cas Gasi is a finca-restaurant, near Santa Gertrudis, where every morning enormous quantities of organic products arrive from the surrounding farms, to be used in the kitchen to make a great menu. The fish is freshly caught the same morning and the certified meat is really top quality. The fresh eggs come from their own free-range chickens and from their orchards come freshly picked oranges, figs and plums. They also make their own cold-pressed olive oil, delicious jams and chutneys and dried fruit.

Fresher than fresh is the motto of Cas Gasi.

Can Muson, Santa Eularia

Can Muson is a farm where you also can eat. The founder is Maria Mari, who was born on Ibiza. With the help of her youngest son, she started the ecological finca Can Muson, near Santa Eularia. Because of Maria’s love for animals, she grew more and more livestock in addition to growing biologically responsible vegetables and fruit. And when she opened her shop, she noticed that when families came to buy fruit and vegetables, the children wanted to know everything about the animals. She started working with the nearby schools, where classrooms came for a kind of excursion and where the children learned everything about the animals. They also received lessons in growing vegetables without insecticide and so the “Can Muson school farms” were created.

Nowadays you can also eat at Can Muson. Traditional Ibiza dishes made from natural, fresh organic products. She still uses her grandparents’ recipes to maintain the island’s traditions, which are almost lost in Ibiza today.

You can also celebrate a birthday with a large group of children at Can Muson and the children can then feed and stroke the animals.

Terra Masia, Santa Eularia

Terra Masia, near Santa Eularia, is the largest ecological farm on the island. Already in the 70’s they were an important part of the agricultural industry in Ibiza and pioneers in the field of the biodynamic approach. The restaurant opened in 2018. Before that, there had been a two-year battle to make 56 hectares of farmland more fertile, restore the health of the trees and plant thousands of seeds.

Under the dedicated guidance of Marina Moran Jou, Terra Masia has now become an oasis of blossoming beauty. In addition to eating in the restaurant, you can also order from them the “Organic Farm Box”, a box of 100% organic vegetables, including edible flowers, aromatic herbs and free range eggs.

During the summer, the “Farm to Table Diners”, where they have a menu with the best guest chefs on the island in a special pop-up restaurant, somewhere in the vegetable fields under the stars, are also organized. But if you are with a larger group, they can also put together a tailor-made menu from the farm, all fresh from the land with organic wines.

A mi Manera, San Lorenzo

A mi Manera is a farm restaurant on the road from Santa Eularia to San Juan, where you sit relaxed with direct views of the vegetable garden. A mi Manera takes great care of organically cultivated products from the vegetable garden and orchard and uses quality local products. The napkins are durable and the tablecloths need little washing, saving water.

The internationally acclaimed creative director Manu Crotti wanted to create a “pop-vibe” in the interior by using colours and the power of nature combined with art.

With an expert chef and friendly staff, A mi Manera is a delicious dining experience and also a meeting place for art lovers from different cultures and different nationalities. A mi Manera is also an excellent place for weddings, business dinners, birthdays and other private parties.

These restaurants are organic Ibiza at its best!

We hope that you will be inspired to visit one of these five fincas for a meal. Make sure you book well in advance, especially if you want a tailor-made menu or a tour.

Enjoy your meal!
