An Ibicenco Saturday

Sadly, autumn has already made its way to the UK, but the weather is still beautiful in Ibiza. The hustle and bustle of peak season has passed and most tourists have already made their way back home. September and October are great months to be in Ibiza. The sea is warm, there are plenty of fun closing parties and the temperature is just right for playing sports. So, what would be an ideal way for me to spend a Saturday in Ibiza?

In these temperatures, going for a swim around noon would be rather refreshing. You can often find tall waves at Cala Llenya, which is the perfect place for bodyboarding. Cala Llenya is a huge sandy beach in the vicinity of San Carlos. It’s extremely popular with families since it is spacious and has plenty of places where kids can play. So, after enjoying some time in the water for about an hour and laying out on the towel for 15 minutes reading a book, it will be time to grab lunch.

Every now and then, you can indulge in guilty pleasures, and what better a place to do that than Amante? It is a bit on the pricey side, but the amazing view and tasty calimari make it totally worth it. Amante is about a 15-minute drive from Cala Llenya. It is a trendy beach club where you’d be best off making reservations during peak season. Every so often, there will be parties too, which I highly recommend.

In the afternoon, when the sun is highest in the sky, you can play sports. The game of Padel is a very popular sport in Spain. This is sort of a mix between tennis and squash that you play two against two. We play this game regularly at sports complexes in Santa Eularia. After playing rather intensively for an hour or so, I have to admit it makes me pretty exhausted; especially after swimming in the afternoon.

After showering at the house, it’s time to grab a bite to eat. La Paloma in San Lorenzo was today’s pick. It’s a nice, quaint restaurant where you can eat deliciously out in the gardens. The largely organic ingredients are home grown as often as possible and are otherwise locally sourced from Ibizan farmers. Lunch at La Paloma leans on the Israeli-Italian side; so, they have tasty hummus and salads. The specialty is the homemade focaccia, where you can choose from various different flavours. Don’t overlook the juices either. They are fantastic. In the evenings, the cuisine is Italian (the burrata, the burrata!!). The wine selection includes local wines and is not terribly expensive. After satisfying our taste buds here, it’s time to see if any energy is left over to party.

As previously mentioned, closing parties are in full swing. These go on mostly from the end of September to mid-October. We just hop into the taxi to Ibiza town and dance the night away to Bob Sinclair at Pacha nightclub.

And finally, one small tip: We’re already looking forward to the Halloween party at Bambuddha Grove! If you’ll be in Ibiza in October, then you must come check this out. The whole restaurant will be decorated in a Halloween theme and everyone will be in costume. So, don’t miss it!
