While living a long time in Ibiza we also explored the best places in Mallorca, one of them is Cala d’Or. This town offers plenty of opportunities to fill your vacation with memorable experiences – and pictures. We have collected 12 of our favourite spots and will show you these with pictures and descriptions down below. From fine eateries or bars to natural beaches and parks, there is a bit of everything. It won’t get boring!

1. La Bodega

La Bodega is a great pick for those ones, who love Spanish tapas and drink good wine. The interior is warm and authentically Spanish, together with the great service you can expect a great atmosphere and dinner here. The Restaurant opened 2013 and is ever since growing and developing their culinary offers. The menu is versatile and grants the right meal for everyone, also for allergy sufferers. From 11.00 until 19.00 o’clock you can choose from 33 different tapas like steak, poultry, garlic gambas and a variety of delicious vegetarian options. Also, children will get happy with the kids’ menu and the ice-cream after the main meal. This are the reasons why many locals find the way to La Bodega. A cosy restaurant, where you can enjoy an authentic tapas-concept and a great wine collection!

2. Diferent

Diferent is opened since 2006 and is as the name suggests a special restaurant. They offer great dishes for Gourmets but also for conventional eaters.
They have a great collection: local wines, gins, handpicked olives, organic vegetable, almonds, cheese, ham, fresh fish and more. If they are available, regional ingredients are used, to deliver high quality. Not only the meals are delicious, also the atmosphere and designs are extraordinary. A mix of traditional and modern.
The cooks have focused on the traditional kitchen with the little extra. Healthy ingredients, special textures, different flavours and the careful preparation make every dish memorable!
Together with local sommeliers and winemaker the best wines are picked. One winemaker delivers his organic wine right from Mallorca’s best wine region, Binisalem.
The location is super lovely as the restaurant emerged from an old mill right in the old centre of Cala d’Or.

3. Parc Natural de Mondrago

This nature parc offers everything you wish for. You can do little hikes and walks from one bay to the other through the wonderful nature, especially when it is hot in the summer the woods spend some refreshing shadow. The bay S’Amarador, which is located in the southeast of Mallorca and approximately 9 km from Santanyí away has crystal clear water and a nice beach with fine sand. This place is very different to the other beaches in Mallorca as there are no big hotels around, only nature and little shops for drinks and food. Therefore, you might try to come here in the preseason or very early in the morning so you can enjoy the beach before it gets crowded. Parking spots are close to the beaches and cost around 5€ but you could come here also with the bus for example from Cala d’Or.
This spot is a paradise for nature lovers and has a calm atmosphere away from loud hotels.

Why?
This park is versatile as you can go for a walk here or relax at the natural beach, without any buildings around.

4. Coves del Drac

The Coves del Drac are located at the east coast of Mallorca, close to Porto Cristo and have a horizontal extension of 1200 meters and a maximum depth of 25 meter below ground level. They were first explored in 1880. Nowadays these beautiful caves are accessible for interested explorer. Even though taking pictures is allowed at some spots (without a flash) it is definitely worth seeing these impressive caves with your own eyes. The Tour takes approximately one hour and includes a little boat trip across Lake Martel and a classical music concert right in the cave. The temperature inside is comfortable (21°C) but the humidity is with around 80% quite high. After the visit you can have a look to Porto Cristo, which is only 500 meters away and has a lot of different little shops and bars.
Tickets can be purchased online or from 9h on at the ticket office.
Prices: 16€ for adults (starting from 13 years) and 9€ for kids (3-12 years)

Why?
This is one of the biggest stalactite caves to visit, which has an exceptional atmosphere that you can’t experience anywhere else.

Ibiza stad

De iconische oude stad van Ibiza, Dalt Vila, bestaat al duizenden jaren en is absoluut een bezoekje waard. In de bruisende stad kun je heerlijk shoppen, prachtige boten (en mensen!) bekijken in de haven onder het genot van een drankje, diner in de buitenlucht bij een van de vele restaurants en uiteraard ook dansen tot in de late uurtjes.

5. Vita Bel

Vita Bel can provide you a great sailing experience with your friends and family alongside the south eastern coast of Mallorca! Since 14 years they are offering different types of private boat trips for up to 12 guests. You can celebrate your birthday here, have a sunset cruise with a great dinner ‘a la carte’ or a snorkeling-trip. You choose! The owner and skipper Nigel Lewis gave up his business life in London before he came to Mallorca for the adventure. And after a bumpy start he could establish his business together with his five crew members. Talamanca

Talamanca is een lang zandstrand iets ten oosten van Ibiza stad. Aan de promenade vind je een aantal gezellige restaurants. Het water is ondiep, kalm en helder. De ideale plek voor een stranddag (ook met kleine kinderen) en een heerlijk lunch aan zee. Talamanca is niet voor niets een populaire plek.

6. Lola Mallorca

Lola Mallorca is truly a hotspot in Cala d’Or, it’s a Spanish gastro bar and lounge restaurant with innovative and fresh dishes. With their concept of combining special beers, fancy cocktails and tapas they could establish their new business right in the middle of Cala d’Or.
This new restaurant located in the center of Cala d’Or has a unique concept offering a perfect combination of beers, cocktails and tapas. You can feel that at this place it is about more than just food, a relaxing atmosphere which stimulate beach vibes. The wide selection of cocktails, local craft beers, IPA’s, tapas and pinchos can be enjoyed inside or outside on their terrace.
The meals have a great taste and also look more than just presentable. Also, the Lola Mallorca is the perfect spot for those, who like to take pretty food pictures and pimp up their Instagram feed.
The open kitchen allows you to watch how the chefs prepare your order.

If you want to enjoy fancy drinks and food in a beach vibe surrounding, and make some nice food-pictures, this is the place for you!

Cala Nova

Cala Nova is één van onze favoriete stranden aan de oostkant van het eiland. Het water is hier erg helder en de afgelopen jaren hebben er een aantal prima restaurants zijn deuren geopend. Reserveer bij Aiyanna, Atzaro Beach of L'Amorigen. Een dagje Cal Nova is absolute aanrader.

7. Botanicatus

The Botanicatus is a great idea for nature lovers and explorers. With its diversity of plants and cactus plants there is a lot to see. This garden has an area of 40.000 m² and harbours more than 400 different plants and 10.000 cacti. Approximately half of the area is planted with a huge collection of the mallorcan flora (Olive, pomegranate, almond, pine, cypress, orange, carob and eucalyptus trees). Actually, the Botanicatus is the biggest botanical garden in Europe. The garden was built in 1989 and has been a quite risky and expensive project, but the place had perfect conditions and climate for those kinds of plants. To water all plants a (10.000 m² and 4-meter-deep) sea was built to store water. Try it out and have an exciting walk through Mallorca’s diverse landscapes!
Prices: 10.50€ (13 years and over), 4,50€ (until 12 years)

If you are interested in plants and the for Mallorca typical fauna, then you have to see this!

8. Cala Varques

Cala Varques is a wonderful hidden beach surrounded by green woods. Also, this is a very natural beach without any big hotels around. To get to the beach it takes you approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on your fitness level. The track is not always even and very sunny so you might take trainers, suncream and enough water with you. But when you go there in off season or early in the morning it will be worth it. A beautiful white sand beach and clear water far away from tourist hotspots. This beach is maybe not for the everyday sunbath but a perfect location if you want to have a little walk and take great pictures.

Why?
This is a very natural beach, so the location is very special compared to other beaches.

Where?
To get there you need to drive from Porto Cristo the MA-4014 and then turn into a dirt road. After parking in front of an iron gate (don’t park on the footpath as police is checking there regularly, 200€ fine) you can start to follow the private track to the beach.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_empty_space height=”80px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2463″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]

9. Cala Marcal

This beach barrier-free and easy to access as there is a road leading to it and all amenities like showers, toilets, lifeguards sun umbrellas and beds are available. It is sheltered by rocks on both sides of the beach, so the waves don’t get too big even if it is a bit windy. The water is getting deeper pretty quickly, that’s why this beach is perfect for swimmer. It is a wide sandy beach, where you can play volleyball and other sports, with crystal clear water and less risk for jellyfishes, so you can go snorkeling or rent a little boat.
In the evening you can have dinner in one of the close by restaurants or the beach bar and enjoy the sun set at the beach.

Why?
This beach is suitable for kids and maybe older people as it is barrier-free and doesn’t require a long walk.

10. Cala Sa Nau

Cala Sa Nau is a wonderful isolated beach with beautiful nature around. When you arrive, you can see the bright blue water, the red rocks and the green pine trees, all together a great composition of colours. Even though this beach is more a nature beach there are showers, toilets and a beach bar. If you are lucky the beach bar sometimes has Spanish live music to round up your Spain experience and on the weekends this beach can get a little party hotspot, where DJs play deep house music. The water is so clear this bay is very suitable for snorkelling and diving and also cliff jumping is possible at some spots where the water is deep enough. You can park 500 meters away for a fee of 3,50€ (11.00-21.00 h). It is a little walk from the parking slot to the beach with some steps at the end, but after that you can relax on the sun beds and under sun umbrellas, which are made out of bamboo.

This beach has a cool vibe with the bright colours and the secluded location.

Santa Gertrudis

Niet voor niets verblijven veel buitenlanders rondom Santa Gertrudis, het hele jaar door. Dit kleine dorpje is de ideale plek om heerlijk te lunchen en te shoppen in één van de gezellige winkeltjes. Centraal gelegen op het eiland en een must-see tijdens uw vakantie op Ibiza.

11. Market Santanyi

You can visit the market in all year round every Wednesday and Sunday morning in the center of the old town Santanyi. The marketplace is surrounded by restaurant and Cafes and you can find old marketer, who offer their local delicacies and handmade artworks since many years. Especially, if you are in search of fresh ingredients for your home cooked meal in your villa, this is the right place to go. From fruits, vegetables, meat, oil, olives to wine and cheese, you can find everything here for your perfect dinner with local cuisine. Go there and let yourself float through the colorful market bustle.
As always it is recommended to discover this market in the low season to avoid crowding and shady dealer. This market in the historic center of Santanyi has a great flair and provides a lot of different local specialties and spots to explore.

Santa Eularia

Santa Eularia is de op twee na grootste stad van het eiland. Er is een fijn strand en ook in buurt zitten een aantal mooie stranden zoals Es Niu Blau, Cala Pada, Cala Nova en Cala Llenya. In het gezellige stadje is een ruime keuze aan goede restaurants en leuke boetiekjes. Daarnaast zijn hier wat grotere supermarkten voor als je in deze omgeving tot San Carlos / San Juan verblijft.

12. Port de Cala Figuera

The dreamy small haven Puerto de Cala is located in the southeast of Mallorca and is worth a day trip. It can be tricky to have a walk there as there are some rocks and slippery corners here and there, but it it’s a fun little adventure! Also, gastronomically Puerto de Cala has plenty to offer, you can get delicious a fresh fish every day. If you get here in the late afternoon you might see the little fisher boats coming back from fishing to unload their fishing. All these little fisher boats paired with the stunning environment and nature give photographers the best sceneries for a good shot. As it is close to Cala d’Or and Santanyi this place is worth going, if you want some variety from the sand beaches.

This is a cute little port that also offers many picturesque spots.

Wordt Ibiza ook jouw vakantiebestemming voor deze zomer, dan mag je deze hotspots niet missen. Een goede mix van al het goede wat Ibiza te bieden heeft.

En misschien is het je nu ook duidelijk geworden dat het niet alleen een party walhalla is, maar veel meer dan dat! Verschillende chille plekjes die je echt gezien moet hebben tijdens een bezoek aan dit mooie eiland.
