San Jose (aka Sant Josep de la Talaia) is located in the west of Ibiza. We love this little village! It is small, cosy, and has some good little restaurants and shops. Many beautiful houses are in the area. The village is old. Actually created by the church which also increased the population greatly in the 17th century. At first, it was only in the area around San Antoni, but the locals thought that was a bit too far by foot. Who could blame them!
The most famous restaurant is El Destino. Delicious tapas. Highly recommended! You will have to make reservations though, especially in the summer months because it gets busy here. Destino has been making a name for itself for some years now.
If you walk behind the church, you will find Can Manyanet, a nice restaurant serving typical Ibicencan dishes such as Sofrit Pages – casseroled lamb, chicken, potatoes and saffron, for €5, while looking out over the flowers of the pretty garden.
At Bar Bernat Vinya, old men gather to play cards, and in the cool summer garden of Es Raco Verde, you can listen to Jazz and Blues while having a cosy evening with your friends and family.
Can there be shopping in San Jose, too? Yes indeed. There are a few small shops. From designer shops to simple tourist shops. If you really want to do some serious shopping, you’re better off in Ibiza Town. Still, San Jose gives a nice shopping experience, where you can enjoy yourself for a while. Incidentally, there are also a number of small supermarkets where you can do your holiday shopping.
The village is small and certainly not spectacular, but cosy you can see how the old inhabitants still live here. There is not much construction, even around San Jose, which preserves its authenticity.
By the way, the parish church of Sant Jose is a nice church to visit, should you still want to do something cultural. Unfortunately, many original works of art were damaged or destroyed during the civil war of 1936.
You will probably drive through this town at some point, but also take some time to have lunch or dinner, a coffee, or rent a house not far from the town.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
