Solar panels in Ibiza: the benefits at a glance.
Now it is better than ever to switch to solar panels. Spain has had a time where solar was opposed rather than stimulated, but those times are over. Below we list a number of things that can play a role in the decision to switch to solar.
- Financial
- Environment / sustainability
- Independent of power supply
- Rising electricity prices
The financial benefits of solar panels in Ibiza
Where the Spanish government has not cooperated in a favorable solar panel policy in recent years, they have changed in regulations since the end of 2018 (mainly due to the Paris agreement). This results in a number of things that make it beneficial to switch to solar panels in Ibiza.
- You now receive an amount per kWh on the (surplus) electricity supplied to the grid. This is around 5 cents per kWh and is expected to increase as energy companies become more competitive.
- There is no more “solar tax”, which was present in the past (believe it or not).
- There is even a subsidy (however with a maximum number of applications per year).
It is of course about saving as much costs as possible. Depending on what is installed, this will be an amount between € 6,000 and € 50,000. This big difference lies in the number of solar panels (and electricity consumption), but also in the question whether a battery is installed.
An example.
You install 14 panels. Costs: between € 5800 an € 6800. This requires about 40m2 of roof (or garden). These panels generate about 7,490 kW / h per year. With a price of 16 cents per kw / h, this means a saving of € 1198 on an annual basis (provided that all energy is used). This would mean that you will have earned back the investment within 6 years. Now we have to be realistic: you will not always use all the energy, and therefore also give it back to the grid and instead of 16 cents you will receive 5 cents. The payback period will therefore be somewhat longer. But with a lifespan of 25 years of the current solar panels, the calculation is fairly easy. In this case, the interest rate would be 17%. Adjusted on the basis of consumption, it is not inconceivable to exceed 10%.
Environment / Sustainability
Ibiza has 300 hours of sunshine a year! Solar energy delivers a lot more in Ibiza than in the Netherlands. It seems clear to us that this piece of energy is a waste not to be used. Solar energy is the future and contributes to a better, cleaner future. Whether it is to reduce CO2 emissions or to create cleaner air. In the long run, it is a wise choice that also pays for itself quickly.
We also want to make an extra filter where we can indicate which houses use solar panels. We do not believe that solar panels are decisive whether a house is booked. But with a new generation on the way that attaches more and more value to this, this may well change.
Independence
We all experience it at one time or another: power cuts in Ibiza. Unlike in the Netherlands, this is not that stable at all, and it is nice to no longer be dependent on an unstable network. Where the neighbor has no electricity and complaining customers, this is not the case with you. Just keep in mind that in many cases you will still use electricity from the grid (at night), so this does not account for all cases.
Rising prices
Prices rose sharply, especially in 2017 and 2018, and then fell again slightly. But in general Spain is known to be relatively expensive compared to other European countries, the price is erratic, and it is expected to rise rather than fall.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]
What would be the next steps?
Of course we are not installers ourselves, and we are happy to leave that to another party. We spoke with a number of parties and selected the best, with extensive experience on the island (dozens of installations have now been completed). Get in touch, and we can estimate costs and revenues based on a Google maps view and the latest relevant electricity bill.
If there would be a go, what can you expect from us more? What can the solar company deliver?
- Solar panels that are purchased on a larger scale at a very competitive price.
- Real time monitoring of your consumption.
- Batteries if you want to use the self-generated energy in the evening and night (this can be a financially sensible investment).
- Related products such as heat pump, charging point for your electric car and advice on importing this electric car.
NB: it is good to know that the solar panels will not be seen from the ground. We use a low profile mounting structure which raises the rear of the panel just 30cm.
